What's Your Why?

My Why:

 

I became a Representative because ever since I was a little girl, I have loved Avon. I loved seeing the Avon Lady walk up to the door during her every-other-week visit with my mother. I always knew when she was coming because Mom would set out coffee and snacks. I always got excited because i knew that I would be allowed to sit with the grownups as they poured  through brochures and went through makeup samples. If I behaved, the nice lady would give me a few samples of my own, usually in the form of tiny lipsticks and minute vials of the latest perfume.

After she left, I would quickly rush up to my little "hidden" room in the attic, where I had a small vanity. I remember looking into my mirror as I put on my newest treasured lipstick. I'd gotten a container of body talc with a big, fluffy pink puff a few years before and that had become part of my "beauty routine". I used to watch the old black and white movies that depicted starlets powdering their faces and I wanted to be just as glamorous. Looking back, those were some of my fondest memories from childhood. Now, as an adult, I want to instill the same joy into other little girls when they see me walking up the drive. I want them to look forward to my visits that will inevitably end with them squealing as they are given their very own lipsticks and perfumes.

As happy as those memories are, they are the smallest reason that I became an Avon Rep. Now that I'm older and have a family of my own, I wanted to be able to spend time with my children as much as possible. Let's face it; in these rushed, busy times, spending quality time with family is now a luxury that few have. Between parents working full time, for hours on end and the children's schoolwork and extracurricular activities, family time has to be crunched into nearly non-existent increments. Most families are lucky if they can eat dinner at the same time. So, when I discovered that by selling Avon i could make my own hours and be my own boss, I not only jumped at the chance, I dove in head first! I have not regretted my decision since. I love my customers and frequently call them just to see how they are faring.

 

I love the freedom that I have to be creative with my business and most of all, I love that I can spend so much time with my family. Customers are never surprised to see me coming, trailing a little girl behind me as she puts on her very own flavored lip balm. After all, Avon is the Company for Women and that includes us as mothers. What other company would encourage mothers in the way that Avon has encouraged me to keep going and be strong?

Someday, I hope that my daughters, or even my son, will follow in my footsteps and become Avon representatives who can put food on the table and a smile on someone's face. I want them to know the joys of caring for a family as they do something they love without having any regrets. That, ladies and gentlemen, is why I became an Avon Representative.
